L.L. Bean switches credit card provider, but Wilton call center is safe for now

Citi Retail Services has purchased L.L. Bean’s $1.5 million co-branded credit card portfolio.

The switch from Barclaycard is not expected to have an immediate impact on the call center in Wilton, which handles customer service for Barclayscard and has 500 employees, the Portland Press Herald reported.

“We have a very diverse consumer business that extends beyond our relationship with L.L.Bean. We have many more partners, products and customers we service with our various teams in Wilton,” the Wilton call center said in a prepared statement published in the Press Herald. “There are no changes planned in Wilton at this time. We appreciate L.L.Bean’s partnership for the past nine years and wish them continued success moving forward.”

The Bangor Daily News reported the purchase resulted in a roll-out of a new Mastercard that racks up “Bean Buck” points that never expire as long as the card is used, has no annual fee and includes other benefits, like 4% earnings on L.L. Bean purchases.
