L.L.Bean is partnering with the City of Philadelphia to encourage outdoor recreation in the city's parks and natural areas.
The press release announcing the partnership reported the Freeport-based outdoor retailer has donated seasonal outdoor gear to Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, including "slope sliders" that will enable children to enjoy the major snowstorm blanketing the East Coast.
"Our children's health improves when they are able to exercise and enjoy the outdoors all year round," said Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter. "Thanks to L.L.Bean's generous donation and leadership, many children can now play outside no matter the temperature."
Steve Fuller, chief marketing officer for L.L.Bean, said the company has "embarked on a mission to inspire people to get outdoors and to encourage the next generation of outdoor enthusiasts" in its 100th anniversary year, giving nearly $3 million to organizations that engage young people and their families in outdoor recreation.
Over the past 10 years, L.L.Bean has given nearly $26 million to local, state, regional and national conservation, human service, education and arts organizations, the press release stated.
