L.L.Bean to open Chicago store

L.L.Bean announced today that it will open a store in Chicago's northwest suburbs, marking its first retail expansion in the United States beyond the East Coast.

The Freeport-based retailer is planning to build a 30,000-square-foot store in South Barrington, slated to open in September 2008, according to a press release. The decision to locate a store in the Chicago area is part of the company's expansion strategy to operate 32 stores by 2012, the release says. L.L.Bean currently has 10 retail stores, including its Freeport store, according to the company's website.
