Local co. ships space gloves

A Southwest Harbor company today announced it has shipped its first space suit gloves that could one day be worn by NASA astronauts.

Flagsuit LLC, founded by Peter Homer, last month shipped the commercially produced gloves to Los Angeles-based space suit company Orbital Outfitters, according to a press release. Homer founded Flagsuit last year after winning a competition sponsored by NASA to find the next generation of space suit gloves.

The gloves Flagsuit shipped to Orbital are modeled on gloves Homer designed for the competition, and include a patent-pending design that allows fingers to be more flexible under pressure. Orbital will submit the gloves to suborbital suit testing and evaluation.
