Logistics center opens in Saco, plans to hire 20

A Pennsylvania-based shipping and logistics company has opened a service center in Saco, and expects to hire 20 full-time workers there.

In a news release this week, A. Duie Pyle said the 33,000-square-foot center, at 85 Industrial Park Road near the Maine Turnpike, will handle services including “less-than-truckload” logistics, and help improve efficiency for customers in Maine and New Hampshire.

In addition to its newly opened Saco service center, A. Duie Pyle last year opened a 77-dock center, shown here in a rendering, in New York City.

"We are excited with our continued growth and for the new efficiencies our customers will gain utilizing the new integrated site," said John Luciani, chief operating officer for Pyle’s LTL services.

"Placing greater tools and resources in the hands of our customers is always our real focus when opening new locations.”

Pyle built the LTL center on 53 acres bought last year for $930,000. The building has 40 dock doors and a three-bay, 8,600-square-foot mechanical shop with a truck wash.

Pyle plans to staff the center with drivers, dock workers, technicians and administrative employees, according to the release, bringing the company's total Maine workforce to 60.

The 95-year-old family business, headquartered in West Chester, Pa., operates 24 LTL service centers in the Northeast, as well as four truckload centers and 10 warehouses, with a total of more than 2.5 million square feet of space.
