Maine Audubon cuts jobs, programs

Maine Audubon is cutting a dozen positions and condensing its programming, citing a decrease in funding.

The Falmouth-based conservation nonprofit will eliminate 12 of its 60 full- and part-time positions by September, according to a press release from the organization. The staff reduction is part of a new cost-cutting plan devised by the organization's trustees that also includes reducing the number of public educational programs and trips Maine Audubon offers.

Maine Audubon's endowment has shrunk recently, in part due to lost grant funding as charitable foundations that provide those grants face financial stress, according to the release.
