Guv's speech to highlight alt energy

Gov. John Baldacci's State of the State address tonight will likely include the announcement of a major new energy initiative.

David Farmer, the governor's deputy chief of staff, told VillageSoup yesterday that a green energy project will be part of the "initiatives and announcements" e4xpected in the speech to the Legislature tonight, which will be broadcast at 7 p.m. on local radio and television.

The governor is expected to discuss how the state can take advantage of Maine's wealth of enewable energy sources. The governor is also expected to touch on education and health care tonight, and maintain, as Farmer told the Bangor Daily News, an "optimistic tone." "The governor is going to take a realistic look at the current state of the economy but he is also going to outline a strategic plan for recovery," Farmer told the Daily News.
