Maine breweries to face off for The Maine Brewers' Cup

Ice hockey and beer — it’s a combination that seems designed by a divine Canadian hand to be perfect. While many fans watch the sport live while downing several domestic ales in red solo cups, six Maine breweries will hit the ice at Thompson’s Point in Portland for the ultimate prize: The Maine Brewers’ Cup.

This Saturday, Allagash Brewing Co., Baxter Brewing Co., Bissell Brothers Brewing Co., Liquid Riot, Oxbow Brewing Co. and Rising Tide Brewing Co. will all compete in the bracketed tournament to crown a new champion.

In addition to featuring beer from the competing local breweries, the event will also have food trucks, DJs and fire pits. After the breweries test their guts for gold, the rink will be open for public skating.

“Everyone at Allagash is fired up to spend the day playing in and watching this tourney,” said Jason Perkins, brewmaster of Allagash, in a statement. “I personally can’t wait to hang with all my brewing colleagues from around the state. I anticipate a highly competitive, yet friendly competition; and some delicious beers!”

Tickets for Saturday’s event are $10 each, with children admitted free and 10% of the proceeds going towards the Maine Brewers’ Guild.
