Maine gets an "A" on scorecard

Maine received high grades from a Washington, D.C., nonprofit grading states on their residents' abilities to achieve financial success.

The Corporation for Enterprise Development gave Maine high marks in education and health care, which helped it be one of only 10 states to receive an overall "A" on the nonprofit's Assets and Opportunity Scorecard. The organization looked at 46 measures of personal financial security, business development, health insurance coverage and education quality, according to a press release. Households in Maine enjoyed a higher net worth (Maine ranked 13th among the states), more small business ownership (9th) and lower debt (3rd in median installment debt) than most Americans, the press release said.

Maine's scorecard, along with the rest of the country's, can be seen here.
