Maine joins health care lawsuit

The state of Maine has officially joined a Florida lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the new federal health care reform act.

Maine Attorney General William Schneider yesterday said a U.S. district judge granted a motion to allow Maine and five other states to join the lawsuit, only days after Schneider announced he was seeking the court motion, according to a press release from the attorney general's office. A total of 26 states, Florida included, are now plaintiffs on the lawsuit, which challenges provisions of the Affordable Care Act that they say are unconstitutional, including one that requires individuals to buy health insurance by 2014 or face penalties.

The other five states are Iowa, Ohio, Kansas, Wyoming and Wisconsin.
