Philip Jean last week began his position as the CEO of Piper Shores in Scarborough, taking over for Jim Adamowicz, who retired after nine years with the nonprofit.

Previously, Jean was executive director at Seabrook Village, an continuing care retirement community serving over 1,300 residents and 700 employees in New Jersey. He brings over 25 years of executive experience in health care and senior living administration to Piper Shores.

“The search committee and the Piper Shores board of directors found that Philip Jean's experience, leadership style, character, and personality align perfectly for the person we envisioned filling this role at the beginning of our search,” said Dr. Malcolm Rogers, board chair.

Piper Shores is owned by Maine Life Care Retirement Community Inc., a Maine nonprofit.

Jean was raised in Lewiston, attended high school at St. Dominic’s Academy, and later earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Maine. He then went to Husson University where he earned a master of science degree in business administration, with a concentration in health care management.

At Piper Shores, he will oversee the continued growth of residential culture, with a focus on evolving diversity and inclusion, as well as fostering community culture and quality of life for residents.

Jean’s priorities include focusing on financial stability and continuing technology innovation. He will look to expand dining offerings and align the community with what today’s emerging retirees desire.

Jean said he is committed to being contemporary and responsive to best practices, industry standards, and resident feedback, including with regard to the completion of Piper Shores’ newest independent living community, the Meadows.

Built in 2001, Piper Shores is on 138 acres of oceanfront property, between Higgins Beach and Prouts Neck in Scarborough.
