Maine saw strong year-over-year increases in both the volume and median sale price for single-family homes in March.
According to data from the Maine Real Estate Information System, home sales volume rose 8.3% and the median sales price rose nearly 6.3%, to $170,000, from a year ago.
That means Maine Realtors sold 792 homes in March, up from 593 in February and up from 731 one year ago.
The latest numbers make the first quarter of 2013 the highest in two years for single-family home sales. The average median home price for the first quarter of 2013 was about $2,000 higher than the same period in 2011 and nearly $6,000 higher than the same period last year.
The first quarter of this year saw about 500 more homes sold than the same time in 2011 and around 150 more homes sold than the same time in 2012.
