Maine unemployment rate remains historically low

Maine’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 3.3% for November was down slightly from 3.5% for October and 3.8% a year ago. The number of unemployed was down 3,600 over the year to 23,100.

The unemployment rate has been at or below 4.0% for 26 consecutive months, according to the Maine Department of Labor's latest monthly report.

The U.S. preliminary unemployment rate of 4.1% for November was unchanged from October and down from 4.6% one year ago.

The employment-to-population ratio estimate of 61.7% remained above the U.S. average of 60.1%.

Around the state, the lowest rate was 2.4% in Cumberland and Sagadahoc counties and the highest was 4.6% in Washington County.

The unemployment rate was below the statewide average in the Portland-South Portland metro area (2.4%) and close to the average in the Lewiston-Auburn (2.7%) and Bangor (2.9%) metro areas.
