Mainebiz and two of its sister publications, the Worcester Business Journal and Hartford Business Journal, won several awards in the 2020 Editorial Excellence Awards from a key trade group.
The Alliance of Area Business Publishers, which represents 70 business-news publications in the United States, Canada and Australia, presented a bronze medal in the category of Best Overall Design for medium-sized newspapers to Mainebiz, citing two cover designs by Art Director Matt Selva.
Also in the Best Overall Design category, the Worcester Business Journal’s art director, Mitchell Hayes, won a silver medal, with the judges citing two covers in particular, “The Younger Crowd” and “Outstanding Women in Business.”
The Worcester Business Journal picked up gold medals for Best investigative Reporting, for “Tax Breaks: Paying for Growth,” by News Editor Grant Welker; Best Editorial, for “Promote Diversity in the Marijuana Industry,” by Editor Brad Kane; and Best Newspaper in the medium tabloids category.
The Hartford Business Journal won gold medals for Best Recurring Feature, “Executive Profiles,” by Sean Teehan; and “Broken System: Hartford’s exorbitant commercial property tax curbs economic growth,” by Editor Greg Bordonaro, News Editor Matt Pilon and Staff Writer Sean Teehan. It also won a silver medal for Best Local Coverage of a National Business/Economic Story for “With their costs under fire, long-term care hospitals push back, pivot,” by News Editor Matt Pilon.
Mainebiz, the Worcester Business Journal, Hartford Business Journal and New Haven Biz are owned by Worcester, Mass.-based New England Business Media, which is led by CEO Peter Stanton.
