Mainer’s DIY spirit could get national spotlight with docu-film series

Teagan Wright, a Brunswick-based filmmaker who has been working on “From Away,” a documentary series that chronicles the do-it-yourself lifestyle and occupations of Maine natives, is hoping that a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign could land the series on a major streaming service.

Wright, who worked in Los Angeles on various reality shows and served as host of the home improvement show “HouseSmarts,” has been working on the Maine-centric series since last summer, and has already shot 25 hours of footage for just the trailer, according to CBS 13.

According to Wright’s Kickstarter page, which was started to raise $35,000 to cover expenses for the series, “Each episode will be approximately 30 minutes and will explore the highs and lows of work and play in one Mainer's life. We will cover a variety of occupations throughout the entire state that are essential to Maine.”

“…this could mean working on a lobster boat down in mid-coast Maine, sustainable organic farming, logging, or being in the business of brewing Maine's best beers,” Wright wrote in the Kickstarter pitch. “Because you can't know a person by their occupation alone, we will find out what that life affords them on their free time.”
