Mainers' Q1 income rose

Mainers' personal income rose 0.8% in the first three months of 2008, just below the national rise of 1.1%, according to data released yesterday by the federal Bureau of Economic Analysis.

The increase was lower than last year's first quarter, when incomes grew 2.2% in Maine and 2.4% on average nationally, the BEA said.

Personal income jumped the most in North Dakota, rising 7.6%, mostly because the state's agrarian economy benefited from higher grain prices. Arkansas's personal income dropped the most, falling 1.9%.
