The federal government reports that enrollment in Maine’s Affordable Care Act Marketplace during the 2016 open-enrollment period was 84,059, a 12.37% increase over 2015’s 74,801 enrollment.
Enrollment was up by double digits in every Maine county except Cumberland, according to HealthCare.gov, which reported that more than 12.7 million Americans signed up for health insurance in 2016.
Modern Healthcare reported that approximately 9.63 million people selected a health plan or were automatically re-enrolled in their previous plan in the 38 states that used HealthCare.gov this year, compared with the 8.84 million people in the 37 HealthCare.gov states in 2015.
Analyzing the federal Department of Health and Human Services data from 2015 and 2016, Modern Healthcare broke down Maine’s ACA exchange plan selections by county, including the percentage change from 2015 to 2016:
Aroostook — 2015 plan selections, 3,881; 2016 plan selections, 4,384. Percentage change: 13%
Washington — 2015 plan selections, 2,240; 2016 plan selections, 2,527. Percentage change: 12.8%
Penobscot — 2015 plan selections, 6,723; 2016 plan selections, 7,895. Percentage change: 17.4%
Piscataquis — 2015 plan selections, 880; 2016 plan selections, 1,023. Percentage change: 16.3%
Somerset — 2015 plan selections, 2,184; 2016 plan selections, 2,603. Percentage change: 19.2%
Franklin — 2015 plan selections, 1,789; 2016 plan selections, 2,054. Percentage change: 14.8%
