An executive from the Boston Globe has been handed the reins at MaineToday Media.
Lisa DeSisto has been named CEO of MTM and publisher of The Portland Press Herald, Kennebec Journal, Morning Sentinel, MaineToday.com, The Coastal Journal and Maine Sunday Telegram. DeSisto currently serves as the chief advertising officer for Boston Globe Media and as the general manager for Boston.com, according to a release from MTM.
"I look forward to working with the team at MaineToday Media to create and execute a long-term strategy for the business," DeSisto said in the release. "Together we will build on the foundation of quality journalism as we strengthen our print editions and chart a course for a digital future."
DeSisto is familiar with multimedia platforms, having most recently helped launch RadioBDC (Boston.com radio), a streaming digital music experience featuring a team of well-known on-air personalities.
She rose through marketing, digital product and sales management roles at The Boston Globe (a New York Times company) for 17 years, starting in marketing management at Boston.com in 1995. She assumed her current roles in 2010.
Her hire was welcomed by MTM owner Donald Sussman and Guild President Tom Bell.
Over the next several weeks, she will complete her responsibilities at Boston Globe Media and begin her tenure as MaineToday Media CEO in mid-November.
DeSisto and her husband, digital media executive Tim Padgett, and their son will be relocating from Wakefield, Mass., to the Portland area this fall.
DeSisto takes over for Neil Heyside, who came to the newspaper group from the New York City firm CRG Partners in February, serving as the interim CEO.
Heyside arrived at the paper following the departure of Richard Connor, who resigned at the end of 2011.
