Major modular home builder buys Keiser

Excel Homes, which claims to be the largest custom modular home builder in the country, has acquired the Oxford-based Keiser Industries to meet growing demand in the Northeast. The terms of the deal with the Pennsylvania-based Excel were not disclosed.

Stephen Vlachos, principal of business brokerage Caswell Vlachos Group, which was hired by Keiser to manage the sale, told Mainebiz that Excel acquired Keiser to handle a backlog of projects booked in Pennsylvania but that will now be built in Maine.

Vlachos said Keiser has around 100 employees. Excel, owned by Innovative Building Systems in Wexford, Pa., was founded in 1984 and has built more than 28,000 homes, according to the company’s website.
