Malone and Fontaine launch fundraisers for good causes

Two real estate firms have launched fundraisers for worthy causes.

Fontaine Family will host its 8th Annual Bid For Wishes Virtual Auction on its Facebook business page May 16-23.

This year’s auction will benefit Make-A-Wish Maine along with Johnathan Morin, a sophomore at Lewiston High School.

He first started experiencing pain in his leg last summer. When he collapsed at school in early November, family members brought him to the emergency room. After multiple appointments with local doctors, including a concerning MRI, Johnathan was referred to Boston Children’s Hospital.

At a follow-up appointment, Johnathan and his family received the diagnosis of Ewing’s Sarcoma in his pelvis and lungs. The treatment plan includes 14 cycles of chemotherapy, with radiation beginning halfway through.

Johnathan Morin is a beneficiary of Fontaine Family’s 8th Annual Bid For Wishes Virtual Auction.

Given the nickname Rocket by former hockey teammates and coaches, Fontaine is using #teamrocket and asking the community to rally around Johnathan and his family as he undergoes the fight for his life. His wish is to go to Hawaii for a vacation with his family when he's feeling better.

Since 2009, starting with Walk for Wishes, the entire Fontaine Family team has participated annually in the company’s largest fundraising event, which benefits Make-A-Wish Maine. It has raised enough money to grant the wishes of nine seriously ill Maine children. In 2013, Fontaine expanded its efforts by creating Bid for Wishes, which is their online virtual auction event collecting donated items from local business owners to be auctioned off.

Its 2021 online auction event was the biggest yet, auctioning off nearly 300 items and raising over $20,000. Half went to a Lewiston High School student, Emersyn Rowles, for her dream trip, and the other half to a Make-A-Wish child in Durham. The goal is to grant two wishes again this year.

To donate an item to be auctioned on Fontaine Family’s Facebook silent auction event page, contact 784-3800 (Auburn location), 289-3830 (Scarborough location) or info@fontaineteam.com

To make a bid, visit Fontaine’s Facebook Business Page (facebook.com/FontaineTeam) during the week of May 16-23. All items up for bid will be put in an album for easy access and viewing. Bids will be accepted starting at 12 p.m. May 16 and bidding will end at 12 p.m. on May 23.

To make a donation, drop a check by mail or in person at Fontaine Family, 336 Center St., Auburn, ME 04210, attn: Bid For Wishes 2022.

Malone Commercial Brokers said they will be taking over the iconic “Call Joe” Time and Temperature sign from May 2 through May 4, using the acronym “MCB 4ME.”

The abbreviation, short for “Malone Commercial Brokers for Maine,” is a fundraising effort to support Maine students. The sign campaign coincides with the sold-out annual MEREDA Strikes for Scholars Bowl-a-Thon Fundraiser event on May 5, where Malone is a yearly participant.

“The idea came about at the 100+ Women Who Care annual fundraiser auction, when I won the bid for three days on the Time and Temp sign,” said Molly McGuire, Malone’s ops manager and a designated broker. “I thought it would be a great opportunity for MCB to expand even further on MEREDA’s Strikes for Scholars Campaign.”

Malone is asking locals who see the MCB 4ME message on the sign from May 2-4 to snap a photo and post it on their social media accounts with the hashtag #MCB4ME. For each tag and share, Malone will donate to the ACE Mentor Program of Maine and AGC Maine Education Foundation.

“We encourage people to have fun with these posts. We’d love to see selfies, puppy pix and sunsets with the MCB 4ME sign,” said Susie Pollard, a marketing specialist at Malone.

The top shares and posts with the hashtag #MCB4ME will be featured on MCB social media and website.
