Marden's Surplus & Salvage, a Winslow-based discount retail chain, plans to expand its footprint with a location in Farmington.
A May opening is planned for the Mt. Blue Plaza store, which will be at 634 Wilton Road, across the street from Walmart.
The location was formerly a Big Lots, and Marden's is acquiring a nearby space to give it about 50,000 square feet of total store space, according to Fox Keim, general manager of Marden's.
"We are excited to bring our unique shopping experience and bargain prices to the greater Farmington area, where we have a very loyal following in western Maine," said Keim.
Marden's sells clothing, footwear, hardware, tools, flooring, furniture and fabric.
It was started in 1964 by Harold "Mickey" Marden. The company employs around 700 people and has annual sales of $140 million.
For now, Marden's has 13 stores from Sanford in York County to Madawaska in Aroostook County.
