ME auto reps support bailout

Maine Ford dealers have scheduled a press conference in Portland this morning to highlight the industry's impact on the state.

While Ford, Chrysler and General Motors ask Congress for a $34 billion bailout package, speakers including Wally Camp, president of Rowe Ford, Brenda Brochu of Bailey Brothers Ford in Livermore and Lisa Martin, executive director of the Manufacturers Association of Maine, are scheduled to talk at Hadlock Field today about the ripple effect bankruptcies at any of the Big Three would have on Maine if the bailout is denied, according to a press release.

There are 31 Ford dealerships in Maine, employing 1,106 people, and three major auto parts makers employing around 650 people, according to the Portland Press Herald.
