ME contractor to plead guilty to fraud

Maurice Subilia, a defense contractor from Maine, has agreed to plead guilty to charges he defrauded the federal government out of more than $2.5 million.

Subilia, who from 1978 to April 2007 was the president of Fiber Materials Inc. in Biddeford, is accused of money laundering, conspiracy and bribery of public officials, according to the Portland Press Herald. He was indicted in December. Around 2000, Subilia allegedly began bribing Army officials in Alabama to funnel government contract money into a private account in exchange for worthless material. The officials were then given a cut of the money.

Subilia is scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court in Portland on Feb. 2, according to the paper.
