Maine ranked 29th in the nation for its 2010 per-capita personal income, according to data released today by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Maine's per-capita personal income last year was $37,300, below the national average of $40,584, and below all other New England states. Connecticut's $56,001 per capita income ranked No. 1 in the nation, while Massachusetts's $51,552 was No. 2. New Hampshire is No. 9, at $44,084; Rhode Island is No. 15, at $42,579; and Vermont is No. 19, at $40,283.
In total, Mainers brought in $49.5 billion in 2010, a 2.8% increase over 2009. That rate ranks Maine No. 28 in the nation for personal income growth, according to the BLS. Nationwide, state personal income rose an average 3% in 2010, after falling 1.7% in 2009. Growth ranged from 0.3% in Nevada to 4.2% in New Mexico.
