ME receives $1M to train older workers
Maine is one of 10 states receiving $1 million in federal funding for a new initiative to train older workers.
Brunswick-based Coastal Counties Workforce Inc. will administer the funding for the Seasoned Worker Opportunity Project, which will help train workers ages 55 and older for jobs in health care and green construction, according to a press release from the U.S. Department of Labor, which awarded the funds. The project will provide education and training opportunities for older workers and encourage the state's employers to hire older workers. It will also expand the forums offered by Seasoned Workforce LLC, a Rockland-based company that advocates job opportunities for older workers.
A number of Maine organizations will be partners in the project, including the state's community colleges, chambers of commerce and staffing agencies. For more details, read the U.S labor department's project overview.
