Midcoast chamber boards vote to merge

Two midcoast chambers -- The Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber and the Camden-Rockport-Lincolnville Chamber -- are seeking members' input on merging.

In a letter sent to members this week, chamber officials said two years of research have made it "apparent to both boards that the logical and most member-beneficial approach to this collaboration would be the creation of a combined organization." Merging the chambers would enhance marketing, economic development efforts and business advocacy of the region, and would result in better value and programs for members. Existing chamber offices would be retained, and no staff would be affected by the merger.

Both boards have voted unanimously to recommend the merger and have asked members to weigh in at a series of meetings to be held this spring. The decision to merge will be based on a member vote that will occur later this year.
