Midcoast eyed for small wind farm

New Hampshire-based company Eolian Renewable Energy is proposing a small wind farm in the Waldo County town of Frankfort.

At a town meeting last week, company representatives pitched the plan to build four to six wind turbines on Mount Waldo, according to the Bangor Daily News. Eolian has leased land on the mountain since late 2010 and bought previously collected data showing the spot is ideal for commercial wind development. Founded three years ago, the company has five projects in development in New England but none are active.

Residents expressed concern over the 10-megawatt project's noise, shadow flicker and its effect on property values. The town is exploring a moratorium that would postpone wind developments for 180 days, a proposal residents will vote on later this week.
