Military money inches closer to Maine

Nearly $50 million in federal funds slated for military construction in Maine took another step closer yesterday.

A Senate-House conference committee gave final approval to the Fiscal Year 2010 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations spending bill, according to Foster's Daily Democrat. The bill includes nearly $10 million for upgrades at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, $28 million for a new aircraft hangar at the Bangor Air National Guard base and $12.9 million for the Joint Armed Forces Reserve Center at the Brunswick Naval Air Station.

The bill still needs approval from the House and Senate. The House is scheduled to vote on it today, according to the paper.
