Minimum wage boost awaits action from LePage

A bill to raise the state's minimum wage gradually to $9 an hour by 2016 cleared the Legislature but is unlikely to get past Gov. Paul LePage's desk.

The Bangor Daily News reported the measure cleared the House and Senate in party-line votes Thursday. It would raise the state's minimum wage annually by 50 cents until 2016 and would be adjusted in later years based on changes in the consumer price index. The current minimum wage is $7.50.

LePage is expected to veto the bill and it is unlikely to receive the two-thirds support required to override that veto.
