Minimum wage hike a factor in West Paris nursing home’s plans to close
The 2016 law raising Maine’s minimum wage coupled with inadequate payments for MaineCare residents are the two reasons cited by a West Paris nursing home for its planned closure in 60 days.
The Lewiston Sun Journal reported that the Ledgeview Living Center, which houses 72 residents and employs 122 people, announced Thursday it will close in early October after 46 years in business.
“MaineCare has a system of pay for MaineCare residents and the payment system is not high enough (for Ledgeview) to be profitable,” Ledgeview’s Business Manager Roger Wilday told the newspaper. “The increased minimum wage meant that more of our costs were escalated, and we weren’t getting enough money to be in that reimbursement level.”
Wilday said the nursing home was working with the Maine Department of Health and Human Services to make the transition as smooth as possible for everyone.
