Maine Medical Center has opened The Hannaford Team Training Facility for Safe Patient Care in Portland at its Bramhall Campus, where medical teams can train with patient simulators.

Hannaford Charitable Foundation donated $250,000 for the 1,600 square foot training facility, which is a satellite location to the larger Hannaford Center for Safety, Innovation and Simulation at MMC’s Brighton Campus, according to an MMC press release.

The new facility will be outfitted with an adult and pediatric patient simulator. The simulators are used for emergency training in Code Blues, stroke and difficult airway response. The new facility also has a skills lab where surgeons can prepare to use robotics technicals.

“This new satellite training environment enables our interdisciplinary medical teams to train together on a routine basis to repetitively practice critical events, where rapid delivery of high-quality care makes a difference in patient outcomes,” Randy Darby, MD, Medical Director for the Hannaford Center for Safety, Innovation and Simulation.

Separately, the children’s hospital philanthropy raised $44,000 for the purchase of a simulated child patient.
