A Monmouth textile maker, Brahms Mount, has been sold by its Dallas-based owner to a Minnesota manufacturer of woolen products.
Faribault Woolen Mill Co. purchased Brahms Mount from Highlander Partners LP in a deal that closed this week, according to news releases from both the buyer and seller. Terms were not disclosed.
Brahms Mount, which weaves blankets and throws primarily from cotton, will continue cotton product manufacturing in Monmouth and will retain current employees, Faribault said. The new parent company will rebrand as “Faribault Mill” and launch a Brahms Mount product collection later this spring.
“We're thrilled to bring the amazing employees of Brahms Mount into our Faribault family,” said Faribault Mill President and CEO Ross Widmoyer. “This acquisition is a great extension of our strategic focus on building Made in USA jobs.”
Faribault Mill’s chairman, Paul Grangaard, said, "The addition of Brahms Mount, with its amazing cotton throws and blankets, perfectly complements our woolen mill products for customers all across the country. This acquisition will also accelerate our company’s plans to open new retail stores in New England.”
Highlander, a private investment firm that owns two Italian linen brands, SFERRA and Pratesi, said the sale provides a better partner for Brahms Mount.
Highlander partner Mark Blanchat said, "While Brahms Mount has developed and cultivated great relationships with its loyal customer base, our focus is on our SFERRA and Pratesi brands, and we believe that Brahms Mount is a much better fit for Faribault Mill given its complementary offerings and operations.”
Brahms Mount was founded in 1983 by Claudia Brahms and Noel Mount. The company began by weaving natural flax, wool and cotton fibers with antique shuttle looms, occupying a former granite industry plant in Hallowell. Renamed Brahms Mount in 2009, the company later sold to SFERRA and moved to Main Street in Monmouth in 2013.
Faribault Mill, founded in 1865, is based in Faribault, Minn., and produces a wide range of blankets, throws, apparel and accessories.
