More pot dispensary applications filed

The state received 19 applications in its second round from nonprofit organizations interested in operating medical marijuana dispensaries in southern and Down East Maine.

The Maine Department of Health and Human Services only released information on 17 applications, 10 of which seek to open a dispensary in York County and seven in Washington or Hancock counties, according to the Portland Press Herald. A state panel will review each application and award a license to one group in each district by the end of the month.

A first application round garnered 27 applications, and in July the state chose three groups to operate six dispensaries in or near Portland, Augusta, Bangor, Auburn, Thomaston and Fort Kent. Applications for York County and District 7, which is Washington and Hancock counties, did not meet minimum standards, prompting the state to reopen the application process. Applicants denied in the first round were permitted to make changes and reapply.
