MRRA selling surplus Navy equipment

The Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority, which governs the redevelopment of the former Brunswick Naval Air Station, is selling surplus Navy equipment in an online auction that will run through Aug. 22.

Items for sale in the first phase of the auction include a fire truck, snow removal equipment, generators, power converters and numerous other large-scale equipment left behind when the Navy decommissioned base in 2011. In later rounds of bidding, smaller items such as furniture, filing cabinets and computers will be put out to bid. The items can be viewed at the website govliquidation.com.

Steve Levesque, MRRA's executive director, told the Bangor Daily News much of the larger equipment could be of value to airports, municipalities and county governments in Maine, who have already been invited to bid on the items.

According to the BDN, money raised by the auction will benefit the civilian redevelopment of 3,300 acres at the former BNAS and the Topsham Navy Annex.
