Rebecca Hatfield, Avesta Housing's new president and CEO, will join the board of directors at Camden National Corp. (Nasdaq: CAC), parent company of Camden National Bank, at the end of this year.
Effective Dec. 31, Hatfield will join the Camden National Corp. board, becoming the eleventh corporate-level board member and fifth woman, the company said Wednesday.
Hatfield, 44, will also serve on the board's capital committee and on Camden National Bank's board of directors.
“We are extremely pleased to welcome Rebecca as a new independent director to our board,” said Larry Sterrs, who chairs Camden National Corp.'s board of directors. “Rebecca’s deep knowledge of risk management, including underwriting and portfolio management will bring invaluable perspective which will enrich and strengthen the board. Her professional experience leading Avesta Housing will provide additional insight into the needs of the customers and communities the bank serves.”
Camden National Bank was ranked the second-largest Maine-based bank, trailing only Bangor Savings Bank, in the 2022 Mainebiz Book of Lists, based on assets as of June 30, 2021.
Camden National has $5.5 billion in assets, nearly 600 employees and 58 branch offices.
Hatfield, honored as Mainebiz Woman to Watch in 2021, recently succeeded Dana Totman as head of Avesta, a Portland-based nonprofit developer of affordable housing in Maine and New Hampshire. Earlier this week, Avesta broke ground on a development in Conway, N.H., that will provide 156 homes to that area.
"We experience that New Hampshire and Maine are experiencing a dire and unprecedented affordable housing crisis, and we are committed to doing everything we can to address that challenge," said Hatfield, who also serves on the boards of Genesis Community Loan Fund and the Gulf of Maine Research Institute.
Before joining Avesta, Hatfield was a senior vice president at Citigroup, and has more than 15 years of experience in finance with a focus on deal structuring, underwriting, risk analysis, portfolio management and relationship management. She also worked for five years as a software and network management engineer.
“Rebecca is highly respected, both in our local business community and across the broad array of industries she has served,” said Greg Dufour, president and CEO at both Camden National Bank and its parent company. “Rebecca’s experience will help advance and expand our corporate strategy while enhancing shareholder value. We look forward to her contributions.”
