A Bangor restaurant the pays homage to the city's lumber past has soared to the top of a national ranking of the "best of the best everyday eats" in the United States.
Timber Kitchen & Bar, whose menu includes wood-fire pizza, hand-made pasta and unusual burgers, is No. 1 on the latest Tripadvisor list of eateries "that offer delicious indulgence without breaking the bank."
Tripadvisor is a travel planning website with more than a billion reviews and opinions on nearly eight million restaurants that lets users find deals on accommodations, book experiences and reserve tables at restaurants.
Timber's top-tier ranking emanates from 2,679 customer reviews submitted to Tripadvisor, leaving comments from the punny "you nailed it" to "comfort food, great bar, exceptional food, lovely ambience."
Timber, located at 22 Bass Park Blvd. in the Queen City, soared to the No 1 spot from No. 10 last year. All the other restaurants in this year's best-value-for-money list are outside of New England, including three in Florida.
Tripadvisor also released its list for top 10 U.S. restaurants for fine dining, quick bites, date nights and hidden gems. A new category, "top picture-perfect restaurants," cites Sunset Monalisa, in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, as a restaurant that looks as good as the food tastes.
This year's winners spanned six continents and 51 countries, drawing from millions of reviews on the Tripadvisor website despite closures in some parts of the world due to COVID restrictions.
