New business electricity rates set

Medium and large businesses served by Central Maine Power Co. will see their rates increase, while prices for commercial customers served by Bangor Hydro-Electric Co. will go down.

The Maine Public Utilities Commission yesterday announced the new standard offer electricity supply prices for medium- and large-class commercial and industrial customers, according to a press release from the PUC. Medium-sized customers in CMP's territory will see rates increase 3.5%, while large customers will see a rise of 8.5%. Prices for customers in Bangor Hydro's territory will decrease 3% for medium-sized businesses and almost 16% for large businesses.

The new rates reflect the lowest bids received and apply to commercial and industrial customers that have not negotiated their own power supply arrangements, according to the release.
