Bike, kayak and paddleboard rental company Explore Bangor held a soft opening opening last weekend, and the Bangor-based company’s owner is bracing for a busy debut.
In addition to renting recreational equipment, the downtown Bangor shop’s owner, Jamie McDonough, will also be offering guided group tours of the area, including a trip that would have adventurers trekking to Veazie on bikes, where the group would then paddle downstream in kayaks to the Bangor Waterfront, according to the Bangor Daily News.
“One thing we’ll be very careful about is monitoring and scheduling around the tides,” McDonough told the BDN about the waterfront journey which, could prove to be difficult for novice kayakers.
McDonough is also in talks with city officials about building a storage facility along the Bangor waterfront for boats that the company will rent to avoid having to haul them from the store. During the winter months Explore Bangor will also offer cross country ski rentals.
McDonough has spent the last several months renovating the shop, which once housed the gift shop Metropolitan Soul, by exposing its original brick walls and tearing down walls to expand the floor space.
