Taro Health, a new health insurance provider in Maine, is set to debut this fall on the state's Affordable Care Act marketplace.
Taro Health has teamed with a network of independent direct primary care physicians and has signed a letter of intent with MaineHealth, the state's largest health care system, to offer coverage to Portland-area residents.
Benefits for enrollees include free access to direct primary care physicians, who build a stronger relationship with their patients via longer visits and greater appointment availability. Taro Health said it will not charge patients a co-pay or surprise fee.
Approved 2023 plans and cost-shares are now available to view online and can be purchased here starting this November.
Mainers who enroll with Taro Health will have access to their choice of an in-network primary care doctor as well as a broad network of specialists, facilities and hospital care, including the full MaineHealth network.
That may save costs for some patients who have traditionally paid out of pocket for direct primary care membership while also paying for traditional health insurance.
“MaineHealth is proud to collaborate with an innovative insurance provider like Taro Health,” said Andy Mueller, CEO of MaineHealth. “Our communities are healthiest when we work together to expand access, so we are excited to move the dialogue forward and expect to be fully in-network for Taro Health members in 2023 and beyond.”
Frank Wu, co-founder and CEO of Taro Health, said, "Patients want consistent experiences with plans and providers without the stress — they just want to get the care and coverage they need."
