The new R.H. Foster gas station and convenience store in Ellsworth has more in common with Whole Foods Market than 7-Eleven, offering kale smoothies and pizza topped with fig and prosciutto.
Robert Tracy, the executive vice president of the Hampden-based R.H. Foster, gave The Ellsworth American a first-hand tour of the new 4,174-square-foot store, which opened July 21. Tracy told the paper that food offerings also include made-to-order and pre-packaged salads and sandwiches with a focus on quick, healthy options for people on-the-go.
The store also offers Maine-made products, including honey and wine and beer. It has what Tracy says is the largest chilled-beer cooler in the city.
The American reports the Ellsworth location is a testing-ground and model for new R.H. Foster stores, with a location at the corner of State Street and Broadway in Bangor getting similar renovations in the fall.
There are 21 Foster’s On the Run stores in Maine, according to its website.
