Pittsfield-based Cianbro Corp. has formed an alliance with an Illinois construction firm that could create jobs for Maine workers.
Cianbro officials said yesterday the company has partnered with STARCON International Inc., a mechanical contractor that provides construction and maintenance services to the energy and petrochemical industries, according to the Bangor Daily News. The partnership will allow both companies to expand into new markets, and could provide work for Cianbro employees during the slow winter months. "It could mean a lot of new job opportunities here, and in Maine and elsewhere," Cianbro spokesman Alan Grover told the paper. "We expect to have a lot of new work with this."
Officials at Cianbro's Eastern Manufacturing Facility in Brewer announced earlier this month that they would lay off nine employees and could cut hundreds more as work slows on the facility's module project for a Texas oil refinery.
