Newsworthy people and performances for Aug. 24, 2020

New hires

The Downeast Salmon Federation in Columbia Falls hired Greg Lounder as associate director and Martha Siano as communications and development coordinator.

Maine Maritime Academy in Castine hired Richard Rosen as vice president for financial and institutional services. Most recently, Rosen was commissioner of the Maine Department of Administrative and Financial Services with responsibility for the state budget, 1,200 employees, IT, procurement and facilities.

Skowhegan Savings hired David Aurigemma as vice president of special assets, Karen Chapman as vice president and training manager and Andrew Fortin-Trimble as vice president, director of marketing.

Eastern Maine Development Corp. in Bangor hired Nicole Buckner as workforce development specialist in Piscataquis County.

Baird, an employee-owned, international wealth management, asset management, investment banking/capital markets and private equity firm in Portland, hired Philip Stathos–Stathos as director, financial advisor. Stathos–Stathos has 24 years of experience.

OTELCO, a wireline telecommunications services company in New Gloucester, hired Marc Vanderwood as director of IT, Michael Fontaine as a financial analyst, Tai Bishop as a technical support technician, Buddwood Shain as an OSP field technician and Roland Laliberty as an OSP technician.

Maine Energy Marketers Association in Brunswick hired Charles Summers Jr. as president. Summers was previously principal deputy assistant to the Secretary of Defense (public affairs) at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.

Promotions

Community Concepts in Lewiston promoted Sadie Reinhard to director of finance and Sheila Bedard to associate director of finance. Reinhard was most recently associate director of finance while Bedard was previously business manager for Community Concepts Finance Corp.

Good Shepherd Food Bank in Auburn promoted Shannon Coffin to vice president of community partnerships.

Maine Water in Saco promoted Mark Vannoy to vice president. Vannoy previously served as director of administrative services.

Franklin Savings Bank promoted Heidi Lee to mortgage underwriting officer.

The Portland Fire Department promoted Lt. Angela Calvo to division chief of Emergency Medical Services and training. Calvo was previously filling the role in an interim basis.

Baker Newman Noyes, a CPA and consulting firm in Portland, promoted Jaclyn Soderlind to senior manager and Joseph Begin to manager in its tax practice and Matthew Fernandez to senior manager and Justin St. John to manager in its assurance practice.

Appointments

The Maine Real Estate & Development Association in Portland added Shannon Richards and Craig Young as board vice presidents. Richards is president of Hay Runner, a real estate development company, while Young is a partner at the Boulos Co. The association also elected Rebecca West Greenfield, partner at Pierce Atwood, and Anthony Calcagni, partner at Verrill, to its board of directors.

The South Portland/Cape Elizabeth Rotary Club elected Michael Geneseo president for 2020-21. David Bagdasarian will serve as president-elect, Jim Britt as vice president, Kathy Cotter as secretary and Nicole Albert as treasurer. Bev Altenburg and Katelyn Estes are club directors, Chuck Redman is director at large and David Lourie is immediate past president.

Good Shepherd Food Bank in Auburn added Dora Anne Mills and Peter Forester to its board of directors. Mills is chief health improvement officer at MaineHealth while Forester is senior vice president of merchandising at Hannaford.

Pierce Atwood, a law firm in Portland, announced that Joshua Dunlap was appointed to the Maine Rules of Appellate Procedure Advisory Committee. Dunlap is a litigation and appellate partner with the firm.

The Portland Public Schools added Joanna Frankel, assistant principal at Rowe Elementary School, Sarah Rubin, assistant principal at Lyseth Elementary School, and Lance Johnson, athletic/co-curricular director at Portland High School, as administrators.

Achievements

The Board of the Maine Justice Foundation in Hallowell named Jamie Kilbreth, Anna Welch and Daniel Keenan as its “Champions of Access to Justice.” Kilbreth, a partner at Drummond Woodsum, was named the “Howard H. Dana, Jr. Award” winner; Welch, a professor at the University of Maine School of Law, captured the “Thomas P. Downing, Jr. Award;” and Keenan, a litigation attorney at McCloskey, Mina, Cunniff & Frawley, won the “New Lawyer Award.”

Good Shepherd Food Bank in Auburn said it earned it a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent charity evaluator.

The Maine Real Estate & Development Association in Portland recognized Hannaford Center, Good Shepherd Food Bank; Cape Arundel Cottage Preserve, Arundel-Kennebunkport Cottage Preserve LLC; 62 Spring St., Auburn Housing & Anew Development; Founders Place Campus, Bangor Savings Bank and CJ Developers; Southgate Avesta Housing; Station Square, Great Falls Construction; and WEX global corporate headquarters, Jonathan S. Cohen and 0 Hancock Street LLC as its most noteworthy and significant Maine commercial development projects from the previous year.

Verrill, a law firm in Portland, said Maine-based attorneys Kurt Klebe, Mary McQuillen and Jacqueline Rider were recognized in the Chambers “High Net Worth 2020 Guide,” a publication aimed at the international private wealth market. The firm’s private wealth law practice was also ranked in “Band 1,” the highest ranking a firm can receive.

Pierce Atwood, a law firm in Portland, said Maine-based partners Molly Liddell, Jana Magnuson and Barbara Wheaton were recognized in the Chambers “High Net Worth 2020 Guide,” a publication aimed at the international private wealth market. The firm’s trusts and estates practice group in Maine was also ranked “Band 1,” the highest ranking a firm can receive.

NorthStar, a program of Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington and the regional ambulance service for Greater Franklin County, said that Scott Nile received certification as a Flight Paramedic. The hospital also announced that it earned “The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Hospital Accreditation” by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The approval is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care.

New Dimensions FCU in Waterville was ranked No. 1 in Forbes’ annual list of “America’s Best-In-State Credit Unions in 2020.”

The Maine Office of Tourism announced the recipients of its “2020 Maine Tourism Awards.” Winners included Hardy Boat Cruises, “Governor’s Award for Tourism Excellence;” Thalo Blue Destination Marketing, EcoPhotography and Aroostook County Tourism, “Marketing and Promotion Award;” Caribou Parks and Recreation Department, “Leadership and Growth Award;” and Nervous Nellie’s Jams & Jellies and Opera House Arts in Stonington, “Innovation and Creativity Award.”

Allen Financial in Camden announced that Thomas Chester earned the designation of Certified Plan Fiduciary Advisor from the National Association of Plan Advisors. Chester is a financial advisor with the firm.

MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s “Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award.” The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence.

The Maine Credit Union League named Scott Harriman, president and CEO of Cumberland County Federal Credit Union in Falmouth, its “2020 James M. Gratto Award” winner for outstanding credit union CEO.

GWI, an internet and telecommunications services company in Biddeford, announced that it became the first broadband carrier in the nation to achieve B Corporation certification, which requires companies to adhere to the highest standards of social, fiscal and environmental accountability with a focus on community economic sustainability.
