New hires

Bar Harbor Bank & Trust hired Tom Dorrity as assistant vice president, regional relationship manager on the bank’s commercial banking team in Bangor and Jamie Haining as vice president, merchant services team lead and treasury sales officer in Bangor. Dorrity was previously a senior commercial credit analyst at TD Bank while Haining was vice president, business development officer at Katahdin Trust Co.

Eastern Maine Community College in Bangor hired Chris Winstead as director of workforce development. Winstead most recently served as executive director of the Piscataquis County Economic Development Council.

Perkins Thompson, a law firm in Portland, hired Adam Nyhan as an attorney in its software and startups practice group as well as its business and corporate law and intellectual property and technology law groups.

Tedford Housing, a nonprofit agency in Brunswick whose mission is to find lasting solutions to the challenges of homelessness, in Brunswick hired Rota Knott as executive director. Knott, who has a decade of experience in nonprofit leadership and administration, was previously executive director of the Somerset County Local Management Board in Maryland.

Hospice of Southern Maine in Scarborough hired Kyra Chamberlain as clinical operations director and Michelle Bradbury as an employee training and development manager. Chamberlain was most recently vice president of operations at ABD Group while Bradbury worked most recently at Martin’s Point.

Allen Insurance and Financial in Camden hired Daulton Wickenden as a personal insurance account executive.

DAVO Technologies, a fintech startup in Westbrook, hired Alan Fitzgerald as vice president of engineering, Mike Salisbury as COO, Don Petersen as director of marketing and Cyrus Fenderson as software engineer. Fitzgerald was with CashStar, Mike Salisbury with Quantrix, Petersen with Kurado and Fenderson with Covetrus.

Waban, a Sanford-based provider of services for people with disabilities, hired Jennifer Putnam as executive director. Putnam, who is experienced in nonprofit leadership and advocacy in the intellectual and developmental disabilities community, most recently served as executive director of The Progress Center in Norway.

Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington hired Emily Jacobs as a provider at Franklin Health Pediatrics and at the hospital’s Maternal and Child Health Unit providing inpatient care for newborns and children.

Midcoast Federal Credit Union in Freeport hired Jeremy McDaniel as vice president loan operations and Tiombe Mailman as vice president retail services in Freeport and Brunswick.

Northern Maine Development Commission in Caribou hired Brandon McDonald as program manager for entrepreneurial development.

The city of Portland hired Rebecca Gagnon as administrator of the Barron Center, the city’s skilled rehabilitation/nursing and long-term care facility.

RE/MAX Shoreline in Portland hired Alex Kappelman as an agent.

Fontaine Family – The Real Estate Leader hired Jennifer Jalbert as an agent in Auburn. Jalbert was previously at St. Mary’s Medical Center.

Promotions

Northern Light Cancer Care in Brewer promoted Sigrid Berg to medical director and Sarah Sinclair to medical director for Northern Light Cancer Research. Berg and Sinclair are specialists in hematology and medical oncology.

KeyBank announced that Tony DiSotto has been promoted to private bank market leader for its New England region. In his new role, DiSotto will lead wealth management teams serving KeyBank’s Maine and Vermont markets. His previous role was that of regional retail leader, responsible for leading the sales and service efforts of the region’s network of retail branches throughout Maine and Vermont. 

OTLECO, a wireline telecommunications company in New Gloucester, promoted David Allen to vice president of network operations, Trina Bragdon to vice president of human resources and regulatory affairs and Carol Grover to senior director of billing.

Bar Harbor Bank & Trust promoted Patricia Laney to vice president, bank secrecy act/anti-money laundering officer, Torrie Lalime to vice president, internal audit manager and Keri Denis to assistant vice president, senior credit analyst.

The MaineHealth Accountable Care Organization in Portland promoted Jennifer Moore to president. Moore is currently COO, a position she has held for the past 20 years.

Albin, Randall & Bennett, a public accounting, tax and advisory firm in Portland, promoted Laura Everett and Matthew Pore to principals. Everett is a leader in the firm’s automotive dealership and credit union service groups while Pore is a tax director.

Kennebunk Savings in Kennebunk promoted Kim Brooker to vice president, retail market manager for its York branches.

Franklin Savings Bank promoted Pamala Dixon to senior vice president and CFO. Dixon, who has served as the bank’s treasurer since 2016, was previously vice president and controller.

Drummond Woodsum, a law firm in Portland, promoted associate attorneys Lisa Magnacca, Allen Kropp, Reid Hayton-Hull and Christina Simpson de Reyes to shareholders. Magnacca is a member of the firm’s business services, real estate and affordable housing and community development practices; Kropp is a member of the school and education, higher education and labor and employment practice groups; Hayton-Hull focuses her practice on commercial transactions and commercial real estate; and Simpson de Reyes is a member of the firm’s immigration services group based in Manchester, N.H.

Skelton Taintor & Abbott, a law firm in Auburn, promoted Braden Clement and Amy Dieterich to shareholders. Clement represents individual clients in a range of civil litigation matters, including plaintiff’s personal injury, professional malpractice, product liability, commercial disputes, family law and immigration while Dieterich’s practice areas include employment law, labor law, family law, commercial litigation and municipal and government law.

Appointments

College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor named Davis Taylor the Cody van Heerden Chair in Economics and Quantitative Social Sciences, a newly endowed faculty position. The position honors long-time college trustee, colleague and alumna Cody van Heerden, who passed away in 2018 after a battle with ALS.

Midcoast Federal Credit Union in Freeport added Katie Bryer as a volunteer member of its supervisory committee. Bryer has eight years of experience with audit and internal controls which is a skill set complimentary to the role of the committee.

Maine Real Estate & Development Association selected Tiffany Dembowski to its board. Dembowski, who will also participate as co-chair of the associations’ public policy committee, is state counsel at Chicago, Commonwealth & Fidelity Title Insurance Cos. in Portland.

New Hope for Women, a Rockland nonprofit, added Shelley Megquier and Sarah Robbins to its board. Megquier is a senior policy advisor at Population Reference Bureau, a Washington D.C. based non-governmental organization, while Robbins is a business support analyst for Milton CAT.

Skelton Taintor & Abbott, a law firm in Auburn, said shareholder Jim Pross was elected to the Androscoggin Land Trust’s board of directors. The trust is a private, nonprofit membership organization dedicated to protecting natural areas, landscapes and outdoor experiences in the Androscoggin River watershed through land conservation and stewardship. Pross’ practice areas include real estate, landlord/tenant, municipal and government law, social security disability and employment law.

The MDI Biological Laboratory in Bar Harbor added Janis Coates to its board of trustees. Coates is executive director of Island Readers & Writers in Southwest Harbor.

Achievements

The city of Portland and the Portland Development Corp. named its annual award winners. Kevin Bunker and Developers Collaborative received the “2019 Economic Development Achievement Award,” Paradigm Window Solutions the “2019 Legacy of the Year Award,” Certify Inc. the “2019 Business of the Year Award,” Bayside Bowl the “2019 Small Business of the Year Award” and Drifters Wife the “2019 PDC Client of the Year Award.”

Central Maine Growth Council and KV Connect presented its annual “Emerging Leader” award to Molly Woodward, director of business development at New Dimensions Federal Credit Union and president of KV Connect, the young professionals’ group of mid-Maine.

Coastal Mountains Land Trust in Camden recognized its annual award winners. Maine Water Co. received the “Chatfield Land Protection Award,” Roger Rittmaster was presented with the “Connecting Community & Nature Award” and Janet Williams and Brianna Quinn won the “Zwartjes Volunteer Award.”

Shana Youngdahl, assistant professor of English at University of Maine at Farmington, had her first young adult novel, “As Many Nows As I Can Get” recognized by the New York Public Library as a “Best Book of 2019 for Teens.” The book was also selected by Kirkus as a starred review, awarded to books of exceptional merit and chosen by both Kirkus and Seventeen magazine as one of the “Best YA Books of 2019.”

“The PR Maven” podcast by Nancy Marshall Communications was listed among Feedspot’s top 10 personal branding podcasts to follow. The rankings were based on episode consistency, social media metrics, podcast quality, domain authority, age of the podcast and how much traffic the podcast receives.

United Midcoast Charities in Camden said it was designated as a “2019 Top-Rated Nonprofit” by GreatNonprofits, the leading provider of user reviews of charities and nonprofits. This is the third consecutive year in which the nonprofit received the honor and it is one of only eight nonprofits in Maine to be recognized in 2019.

The Council of Scientific Society Presidents named U.S. Sen. Susan Collins as the recipient of its “2019 Support of Science Award.” This award honors an individual who merits recognition for outstanding and dedicated support of U.S. science, free scientific communication and support of basic research.

Allen Insurance and Financial in Camden said Patrick Chamberlin earned a Management Liability Insurance Specialist designation from the International Risk Management Institute. Chamberlin is a business insurance producer.

KeyBank and University of Maine Athletics selected Willie Wags, a woman-owned retail business in Bangor, as the winner of its “Small Business Spotlight Promotion.” Willie Wags received a $5,000 grant from the bank along with $5,000 in marketing assets through the university’s athletic department.

Julie Marchese, co-founder of the Maine Cancer Foundation’s Tri for a Cure, received the “Outspoken Women in Triathlon Award for Race Director of the Year.” The event is Maine’s only all-women’s triathlon.

The Woodforest CEI-Boulos Opportunity Fund was selected as one of 20 communities and opportunity zone funds by “The Forbes OZ 20: Top Opportunity Zone Catalysts,” a partnership between the Sorenson Impact Center and Forbes. The list recognized community organizations and OZ Funds that are committed to achieving equitable economic growth in underserved and overlooked communities throughout the country.

The Portland Regional Chamber announced its 2020 Imagine Portland annual event award winners. Dana Totman, president and CEO of Avesta Housing, won the “Catalyst Award;” Portland Adult Education captured the “Collaborator Award;” William Caron Jr., CEO of MaineHealth, and Richard Petersen, president of MaineHealth and CEO of Maine Medical Center, shared the “Champion Award;” and Paula Mahony, president and marketing strategist of Words@Work Inc., was named the “Visionary Volunteer Award” winner.

Gov. Janet Mills and the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development recognized four Maine businesses as recipients of the “Governor’s Award for Business Excellence.” Winners included Rwanda Bean, “Welcome Home Award;” Luke’s Lobster, “Heritage Industry Award;” Bigelow Brewing Co., “Rural Revitalization Award;” and CourseStorm, “Innovation Award.”
