Newsworthy people and performances for June 13, 2022

New hires

Fontaine Family, an Auburn real estate firm, hired Luke Kelleher as a buyer agent.

Spinnaker Trust, an employee-owned Maine bank chartered as a non-depository trust company in Portland, hired Casey McCormack as director of real estate.

RE/MAX Shoreline in Portland hired Emily Taylor as an agent.

United Way of Mid Coast Maine in Bath hired Nicole Evans as director of development. Evans was previously executive director of the Central and Mid Coast Maine Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Hope Acts, a nonprofit in Portland that provides housing, English classes and other resources to new Mainers, hired Serge Asumani as asylum seeker program assistant.

Balsam Realty in Freeport hired Jonas Werner as a Realtor. Werner previously owned Azure Café.

DFD Russell Medical Centers in Bridgton hired Jennifer Michaud as a board-certified family nurse practitioner, Trisha Gushue as a board-certified primary care physician and Bridget Ross-Fitzgibbons as a board-certified adult-gerontology nurse practitioner. Michaud was with Hometown Health Center in Dexter, Gushue with Poland Community Health Center and Ross-Fitzgibbons with Genesis Physician Services in North Conway, N.H.

Colby College in Waterville hired Julie Wood as vice president and chief human resources officer. Wood, who is scheduled to start her new role in September, is currently chief people officer at Crowe LLP, an accounting, consulting and technology firm.

Sheridan Construction in Fairfield hired Stephen Csenergy as a project engineer for its design and build team.

The Maine Department of Economic & Community Development’s Office of Business Development hired Ben Sturtevant as large business development manager. Sturtevant was previously manager of real estate and marketing at Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority.

Maine Community Bank in Westbrook hired William Wood as vice president, branch manager of the Westbrook division of its’ Biddeford Savings branch and Ryan Wing as senior vice president, chief information officer.

Haley Ward Inc., an employee-owned professional engineering, environmental and surveying consulting firm in Bangor, hired Paul Monyok as a project engineer, Joel Rogers as a structural engineer, Katy King as an interior designer, Lynn Peirce as an accounting manager and Heddie Samuelson as an environmental field technician in Bangor; Jason Bernier as a plumbing design professional, Lisa Beeler as a business development manager and Bill Lynch as a designer in Saco; Chris Williams as a project engineer in Lewiston; and Anatoly Gregor as a senior electrical engineer in Waterville.

The John T. Gorman Foundation in Portland hired Jennifer Rice as executive assistant. Rice was previously a paralegal at Pierce Atwood LLP.

Piper Shores, a lifecare retirement community in Scarborough, hired Philip Jean as CEO. Jean was most recently executive director at Seabrook Village, a continuing care retirement community in New Jersey.

Promotions

Geiger, a promotional products distributor in Lewiston, promoted Michael French to web development manager and Johnathan Plummer to creative lead in the corporate programs department.

The John T. Gorman Foundation in Portland promoted Jennifer Beck to vice president of programs. Beck was previously senior program associate.

Bar Harbor Bank & Trust promoted Mark Giordano to senior vice president, enterprise architect. Giordano was previously senior project manager.

Appointments

MMG Insurance Co. in Presque Isle added Deborah Jordan and Deanna Sherman to its board of directors. Jordan is business advisor/sole proprietor of Camden Consulting while Sherman is the retiring president and CEO of Dead River Co.

Verrill, a law firm in Portland, said attorney Elizabeth Connellan Smith was elected to the board of governors of the College of Workers’ Compensation Lawyers. The board was established to “honor those attorneys who have distinguished themselves in their practice in the field of workers’ compensation.”

Maine Dental Association in Manchester elected Norma Desjardins, who directs a private nonprofit dental practice in Presque Isle, as president of its board of directors. In addition, Shanna Gagnon was voted president-elect and Adam Saltz vice president.

Achievements

Midcoast Youth Center and Bath Skate Park announced that Jamie Dorr, executive director, was named the “2022 Morse High School Mainsail Award” winner. Dorr is the founder of Midcoast Community Alliance, a grassroots community coalition of concerned health care, school, municipal, business, law enforcement and community members formed in 2016 in response to the high rate of youth suicide in Bath and Sagadahoc County.

Haley Ward Inc., an employee-owned professional engineering, environmental and surveying consulting firm in Bangor, said that Jason Patterson, project scientist, passed the Maine Grade 4 Wastewater Operator exam; Drew Greenlaw, survey technician, passed his Land Surveyor in Training exam; and Rebecca Twiss, proposal coordinator, received a Grant Writing Micro-Credential for completing a grant certification course through the University of Maine System.

Coffee By Design in Portland received a score of 94 for its Costa Rica Naranjo Danilo Salazar Arias, 93 for Kenya Kahunyo AA and Honduras COMSA Oscar Omar Alonzo and 92 for Rwanda Gasharu Natural by Coffee Review, an international coffee buying guide.

Hospice of Southern Maine in Scarborough was named a “2022 Hospice Honors Elite” recipient by Healthcarefirst, an administrator of the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers & Systems hospice surveys.

The Maine Credit Union League named Jason Lindstrom, president and CEO of Evergreen Credit Union in Portland, as its “James M. Gratto Award” winner as CEO of the Year.

Maine Public Health Association recognized organizations and individuals who make a difference in public health in Maine. Winners included: Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention COVID Case Investigation Team, “Presidents’ Award;” Alfred May, Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention Public Health District liaison – Downeast District, “Ruth S. Shaper Memorial Award;” Yarmouth Community Coronavirus Task Force, “Public Health Program of Excellence Award;” Danielle Louder, co-director of Medical Care Development’s Public Health Division, “Phebe Conrey King Access to Healthcare Award;” Vicky Wiegman, substance abuse coordinator, counselor and tobacco treatment specialist at Lewiston Public Schools, “Pamela M.B. Studwell Tobacco Policy Award;” Anna Korsen, program director, Full Plates, Full Potential, “Public Health Policy Champion Award;” Rose Lundy, public health reporter, The Maine Monitor, “Public Health Journalism Award;” The Jackson Laboratory’s Tewhey Laboratory, “Public Health Business Champion Award;” Mercedes Faucher, medical volunteer management coordinator, Maine CDC (AdCare Educational Institute of Maine Inc.), “Public Health Rising Star Award;” and LA Emergency Task Force, “Unsung Hero Award.”

Brown, Holmes & Milliken Agency, an insurance company in Ellsworth, was appointed to The Hanover Insurance Group’s “President’s Club” and recognized by Ohio Mutual Insurance Group as one of the company’s Top-10 agencies for profitable growth in 2021.

Spurwink, a Portland-based nonprofit that provides mental health, education and residential services for children, adolescents, adults and families, named Margo Walsh, founder of MaineWorks and co-founder of Maine Recovery Fund, its “2022 Humanitarian Award’ winner and WEX its “Corporate Care Award” winner.

Northern Light Mayo Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft presented its “Nursing Excellence Award” to Vickie Clement and its “Certified Nursing Assistant Excellence Award” to Kelly Cooper. Clement is an operating room nurse at the hospital while Cooper works on the medical/surgical unit.

The Maine Chapter of the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters Society recognized Deborah Wentworth, senior vice president at Clark Insurance in Portland, as the winner of the “2022 Lee G. Allen President’s Award of Excellence.”
