New hires

New York Life Insurance Co. hired Tony Caligaris as managing partner for its Maine General Office in South Portland.

Bar Harbor Wealth Management, a subsidiary of Bar Harbor Bank & Trust, hired Robert Freese as vice president, wealth manager. Freese was previously an investment consultant at Gibson Financial Solutions.

Machias Savings Bank hired Lucie Hannigan as senior vice president, cash management relationship manager in Portland. Previously, Hannigan was director of business banking at Northeast Bank.

Kennebunk Beach Realty hired Leo Tuttle as a broker.

Hospice of Southern Maine in Scarborough hired Kelly Blanchette as a bereavement services manager and end-of-life educator; Heidi Campbell as annual fund and events coordinator; Janice Albert, Marianthe Andrews and Jenna Caswell as registered nurses; David Gant as a chaplain; Lauren Miller as a hospice aide; Margaret Ross as a nurse practitioner; Kristen Stevens as a transitional care nurse; and Taylor Watts-Hall as a bereavement support counselor.

RE/MAX Shoreline in Portland hired Heather Horlor as production manager. Horlor was previously CEO of the Greater Portland Board of Realtors.

Waterville Creates hired Bryant Cyr as production manager and Michael Churchill as technical director for the Waterville Opera House, Austin Frederick as audio visual coordinator at the Maine Film Center, Lisa Wheeler as education and outreach coordinator, Jordyn Chelf as marketing and development coordinator and Sara Stewart as event and volunteer coordinator.

Allen Insurance and Financial in Camden hired Susan Howland as director of human resources.

The city of Lewiston hired Angelynne Amores as director of marketing and communications.

Payroll Management Inc. in Auburn hired Bernie Ouellette as vice president of operations.

R.M. Davis, a private wealth management firm in Portland, hired Caleb DuBois as chief compliance officer and deputy general counsel and Tim Malisa and Tim Acquaviva as portfolio managers. Dubois was previously a shareholder at Bernstein Shur, Malisa was director of portfolio management at Spinnaker Trust and Acquaviva was client service and regulatory manager for Wellington Management Co.

DFD Russell Medical Centers in Monmouth hired Christopher Butler as a board-certified, family nurse practitioner.

Promotions

Bath Savings Trust Co. promoted Sarah Grover to trust operations officer. Grover was previously operations manager.

SMRT Architects and Engineers in Portland promoted Benjamin Halleck, Jeana Stewart, Lura Wade and Peter Rand to associate principal. Halleck is senior mechanical engineer, mechanical group leader; Stewart, workplace market sector leader; Wade, senior electrical engineer; and Rand, senior structural engineer, structural group leader.

Appointments

American Heart Association announced that Eric Jermyn, president of Cross Insurance, will serve as chair for its 2023 Maine Go Red for Women Luncheon being held March 21, 2023 at the Holiday Inn by the Bay in Portland and Sarah Belliveau, CEO of BerryDunn, will chair its 2023 Maine Heart Walk, scheduled for May 21, 2023 in Portland.

Hospice of Southern Maine in Scarborough added Moya Elliott to its board of directors. Elliott is a senior vice president, senior wealth advisor at Wilmington Trust NA.

Maine Outdoor Brands, a business alliance working to strengthen the state’s outdoor recreation economy, added Takeshi Miyamoto, Martha Bentley, Kevin Haley and Devin McNeill to its board of directors. Miyamoto is founder and president of Salt Pump Climbing Co., Bentley is owner of MMB Collaborative Leadership LLC, Haley is partner at Brann & Isaacson and McNeill is CEO of Flowfold.

Elaine Aloes, Solon Selectboard Chair, was recently sworn in as president of the Maine Municipal Association.

Portland Ovations added Maile Buker, Luisa Deprez, Ken Grady and Nyamuon Nguany Machar to its board of directors. Buker is fractional chief marketing officer with Chief Outsiders, Deprez is professor emerita of sociology at the University of Southern Maine, Grady is senior vice president and chief information officer at IDEXX and Machar is a cultural strategist with Disability Rights Maine.

Achievements

Jennifer Coffin, a personal insurance account executive with Allen Insurance and Financial in Camden, earned the “Safeco Insurance Award of Excellence.”

Judy Akers, Poland town clerk, received the “2022 Ethel N. Kelley Award” from the Maine Municipal Association.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation announced that Brandi Meisner, vice president of operations at Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce in Waterville, was selected to participate in the seventh cohort of its Business Leads Fellowship Program.

Mindy Maheu and Martha Wentworth, personal insurance account executives with GHM Insurance in Waterville, earned the “Safeco Insurance Award of Excellence.”

Preti Flaherty, a law firm in Portland, said six of its Maine-based attorneys were selected for recognition as “2022 New England Super Lawyers” and six others were named “2022 New England Rising Stars.”

Husson University’s College of Business announced that it was granted a reaffirmation of specialized business accreditation for several of its business-related degree programs by the Board of Commissioners of the International Accreditation Council for Business Education.

Caleb Johnson Studio in Portland received a “Design Excellence” award for the residential project, Pieri Pines, while Simons Architects in Portland also received a “Design Excellence” award for the commercial project, Waynflete Lower School, from the New England Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

The U.S. EPA recognized two individuals and one organization in Maine at its virtual 2022 Environmental Merit Awards. Melanie Loyzim, commissioner of the Maine Department of Environmental Protection, was named the “Ira Leighton In Service to States Award” winner; Ed Bassett, Passamaquoddy Tribe – Pleasant Point in Perry, was presented a “Lifetime Achievement” award; and the Maine Compost School in Augusta was recognized in the “Environmental, Community, Academia, Nonprofit” category.

Murray Plumb & Murray, a law firm in Portland, said three of its attorneys were selected for recognition as on the “2022 Maine Super Lawyers” and three others were named “2022 Maine Rising Stars.”

The Maine Association of REALTORS announced that Pete Harrington was named the “2022 Maine State REALTOR of the Year Award” winner. Harrington is partner and associate broker at Malone Commercial Brokers in Portland.

ERA Dawson Bradford Co. REALTORS, The Rock Team, consisting of Michelle Weatherbee, Pauline Rock, Kim Meagher and Angie Allen, and The Nadeau Bragdon Team, consisting of Andy Nadeau and Bruce Bragdon, were finalists for the “Jim Jackson Memorial Award” for 1st IN SERVICE. The two teams were also recognized as being in the Top-5 in the nation for customer satisfaction in 2021.

The Institute for Family-Owned Business announced its annual Maine Family Business Awards winners. Rugged Seas in Cape Elizabeth received the “Geiger Environmental Leadership Award;” Franklin Printing in Farmington, “M & T Bank Innovation & Technology Award;” Kennebec Cabin Co. in Manchester, “The Holiday Inn by the Bay First Generation Award;” Box of Maine in Brewer, “Chalmers Insurance Group Customer Service Award;” S.W. Collins Co. in Caribou, “The Shep Lee Community Service Award;” Loyal Biscuit Co. in Rockland, “Maddy Corson Small Business Award;” Luke’s Lobster in Portland, “Renys Large Business of the Year;” and Frank O’Shea of Hunts Point Advisors was the “BerryDunn Lifetime Achievement Award” winner.

Verrill, a law firm in Portland, said 12 of its Maine-based attorneys were selected for recognition as “2022 New England Super Lawyers” and seven others were named “2022 New England Rising Stars.” The firm also announced that Anya Endsley, partner, graduated from The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel’s New England Fellows Institute.
