Newsworthy people and performances for Oct. 4, 2021

New hires

Preti Flaherty, a law firm in Portland, hired Cameron Ferrante as an associate in its municipal law and finance practice group, Paola Maymi as an associate in its business law practice group and Anne Sedlack as an associate in its government affairs practice group in Augusta.

Northern Light Women’s Health in Bangor hired Sarah Edwards, who is board eligible in obstetrics and gynecology as designated by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

The Maine Department of Economic & Community Development’s Office of Business Development hired SarahJoy Chaples as small business development manager. Chaples was previously regional manager and microenterprise specialist at New Ventures Maine.

Piper Shores, a nonprofit lifecare retirement community in Scarborough, hired Patrick Boure as facilities director. Boure previously served as director of facilities at Waynflete School in Portland.

The Maine State Chamber of Commerce in Augusta hired Ben Lucas as government relations specialist on its advocacy team. Lucas most recently served as executive director of the Maine Jobs Council.

OTELCO, a fiber-to-the-premise and telephone provider in New Gloucester, hired Robert Musinski as an OSP field technician in Bangor, Adam Turtlott as a desktop support specialist in Bangor, Rebecca Ingalls as a sales support representative in Bangor and Benjamin Cleveland as a senior project manager in New Gloucester.

Redbird Media Group, a film and video production company in Freeport, hired Christian Kayiteshonga as creative partner/director of photography.

Bar Harbor Bank & Trust hired Kayla Ladabour-Tracy as branch relationship manager in Waterville. Ladabour-Tracy was previously retail account manager at Kennebec Savings Bank.

Promotions

Geiger, a promotional products distributor in Lewiston, promoted Elizabeth Fagan to vice president of Crestline and Erin Hutchinson to key account manager in the promotional sales group of corporate programs. Fagan was previously director of sales and marketing of Crestline while Hutchinson was previously a key customer specialist.

Gorham Savings Bank promoted Kim Donnelly to executive vice president, director of wealth and business services. Donnelly, who has 25 years of banking experience, has led the bank’s business banking division since 2011.

Norway Savings Bank promoted Abby Hodgkins to branch manager in Scarborough and Lindsey Lombardo to branch manager in South Portland. Hodgkins was previously branch supervisor in South Portland and Scarborough while Lombardo was branch manager in Freeport.

Appointments

Constant, a Portland-based provider of digitized, self-service technology for banks and credit unions, said Carissa Robb, president and COO, was elected to the board of the National Automotive Finance Association.

Gov. Janet Mills appointed Greg Payne as senior advisor for housing policy inside the Governor’s Office of Policy Innovation and the Future. Payne was previously director of the Maine Affordable Housing Coalition.

Michelle Clements, public relations and communications manager for the Portland Water District, was appointed editor of the New England Water Works Association’s technical publication, the Journal, the oldest water works publication in the U.S.

Panthera, a global wild cat conservation organization, named Jonathan Ayers as chair of its board of directors. Ayers is the former chairman, president and CEO of IDEXX Laboratories in Westbrook.

Achievements

Maine Credit Union League in Westbrook announced its 2021 professionals of the year 2021. Award recipients included: “James M. Gratto Award — Outstanding CEO of the Year,” Renee Ouellette, president and CEO, University Credit Union; “League President’s Award — League Volunteer of the Year,” Matt Kaubris, CEO, Oxford Federal Credit Union; “Jeannette G. Morin Award — Outstanding Credit Union Employee of the Year,” Bette Tomah, senior vice president of internal operations, Downeast Credit Union; “Diane L. Oceretko — People Helping People Award,” Tena Wallace, vice president branch manager, Midcoast Federal Credit Union; and “Alex Ferguson Award — Outstanding Credit Union Volunteer of the Year,” Marcel Gagne, board chair, Community Credit Union.

Perkins Thompson, a law firm in Portland, said 11 of its Maine-based attorneys were recognized in the “Best Lawyers in America 2022” including David Johnson who was selected as a “One to Watch” and James Katsiaficas who was named “Lawyer of the Year” for municipal law in the Portland area.

The Maine Town and City Clerk’s Association presented its “Clerk of the Year Award” to Katherine Jones, who is Portland city clerk.

The University of Maine at Farmington announced that it was recognized by Washington Monthly’s 2021 annual college rankings as a top “Bachelor’s College in the U.S.” and a “Best Bang for the Buck College in the Northeast.” The university also said it was listed as a top-10 college in five categories by the U.S. News & World Report 2022 Best Colleges rankings, including “Best Value College,” “Top Public College,” “Top Regional College,” “Best College for Veterans” and “Top Performer on Social Mobility.”

Kennebec Savings Bank in Augusta said it received the “Exceptional Community Bank Service Award” from the Independent Community Bankers of America for its service and creative volunteer efforts.

Rebecca Harris, senior account manager at Clark Insurance in Portland, was awarded a “2021 Award of Excellence” designation from Safeco Insurance Co.

KidsPeace, a national behavioral and mental health services organization, announced that its residential treatment program at its campus in Ellsworth received the “Gold Seal of Approval” from the Joint Commission, the nation’s oldest and largest standards-setting and accrediting body in healthcare.

Constant, a Portland-based provider of digitized, self-service technology for banks and credit unions, said Catherine York Powers, CEO, was named to the Forbes “Next 1000 List 2021.”

Sea Bags, a Portland designer and manufacturer of bags and accessories made from repurposed sail cloth, said that is the first U.S.-made retail manufacturer to achieve “GreenCircle Certification,” verifying that the material used to make its tote bags and bucket bags is made from 100% recycled content from recovered sails and sail cloth material.

Forbes, in conjunction with Statista Inc., an industry ranking and statistics provider, selected Skowhegan Savings as its “2021 Best Bank in Maine” and third overall in the country as ranked by consumers.

The Maine Municipal Association in Augusta recognized municipalities by population for producing the highest-quality Annual Reports. Winners in the 5,000 and over category included Bath, “Supreme;” Freeport, “Superior;” and Waterville, “Excellence.” In the 2,500 to 4,999 category Vassalboro was “Supreme;” Mechanic Falls, “Superior;” and Mapleton, Chapman & Castle Hill and Bristol, “Excellence.” In the 1,000 to 2,499 category Gouldsboro was “Supreme;” Vinalhaven, “Superior;” and West Bath, “Excellence.” In the 500 to 999 category Alna was “Supreme;” Carrabassett Valley, “Superior;” and Jackman, “Excellence” and in the under 500 category Cranberry Isles was “Supreme;” Charlotte, “Superior;” and Kingsbury Plantation, “Excellence.”
