Newsworthy people and performances for Sept. 30, 2019

New hires

OTELCO, a wireline telecommunications company in New Gloucester, hired Steve Archibald as a senior voice engineer.

Final Draft CAD LLC, a BIM and CAD consulting firm in Portland, hired Dominick Gamble as a BIM/CAD technician. Gamble was formerly a project coordinator and store planner for Ahold Delhaize/Hannaford.

Maine Maritime Academy in Castine hired Capt. John Cashman to serve as commandant of midshipmen. Cashman, who recently retired from the U.S. Coast Guard after serving 20 years, was previously a prosecutor for the U.S. Department of Justice, environmental crimes section.

Dirigo Strategies, a firm in Thomaston that provides consulting advice to medium and large companies seeking to sell products and services to navies and coast guards in the U.S., Canada and Scandinavia, hired Joseph Rousseau as an associate.

Acadia Trad Festival hired Hanz Araki as festival director.

CES Inc., a firm of engineers, environmental scientists and land surveyors in Brewer, hired Charles Reeves as a senior project manager in its engineering division and Michael Sauda as a senior project scientist in its environmental division. Reeves was previously public works director for the town of Bar Harbor while Sauda was director of safety management at the University of Maine Systems’ office and the radiation safety officer and institutional biosafety officer at UMaine.

Maine Medical Partners announced several new hires. Marie Caldwell joined Maine Medical Partners – Endocrinology & Diabetes; Scott Statman, Samuel Woodworth and Micheal Hellen, Maine Medical Partners – Hospital Medicine; Mats Agren, Maine Medical Partners – Neurosurgery & Spine; Amanda Roberts, Maine Medical Partners – Geriatric Medicine; and Margaret Curran, Maine Medical Partners – Portland Family Medicine.

Machias Savings Bank hired Matt Walsh as CFO. Walsh was previously president and CEO of University Credit Union.

Bristol Seafood in Portland hired Mike Lodato as vice president of sales. Lodato was previously with Diversified Communications serving as executive vice president responsible for long term, sustainable growth and leading a growing sales organization.

Bangor Savings Bank hired Kimberly Pope as senior vice president and director of consumer banking. Pope was previously the New England north regional director of business banking for Citizens Bank.

Allen Insurance and Financial in Camden hired Patrick Chamberlin as a commercial insurance producer. Chamberlin has five years of experience in property and casualty insurance and holds the Commercial Lines Coverage Specialist designation.

RE/MAX Shoreline in Portland hired Mike McLaughlin as a realtor. McLaughlin was previously a commercial real estate investment associate in Boston.

Northern Light Acadia Hospital in Bangor hired Nadia Mendiola as a child and adolescent psychiatrist and Jason Dobrovolny as a primary mental health nurse practitioner in its children’s inpatient unit.

The Maine Community Foundation in Ellsworth hired Adam Bair as information technology associate. Bair was previously IT infrastructure technician at Neurocrine Biosciences Inc. in San Diego.

Exactitude, a commercial door company in Cumberland, hired Jeffrey LaChance as sales manager for its New England territory. LaChance has 10 years of experience in the security sales industry.

Promotions

Frannie Peabody Center, a HIV/AIDS services organization in Portland, promoted Katie Rutherford to executive director. Rutherford was most recently director of programs.

Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution announced several promotions. John Mondor was promoted to marketing manager, Davis Bruttomesso to customer relationship officer in Biddeford, Alex Neill to information technology specialist, Amy Richards to customer relationship officer in South Portland, Andrea Moore and Cara Chase to customer relationship officers in Saco and Michael Rague to customer relationship officer in Old Orchard Beach.

Androscoggin Home Healthcare + Hospice in Lewiston promoted R.J. Gagnon to CFO and Lisa Avery to director of home care. Gagnon was previously director of finance while Avery was the organization’s Franklin County territory clinical supervisor.

Diversified Communications, an international media company in Portland, announced several promotions. Brittany Banville was promoted to registration manager; David Cohen to senior conference coordinator; Jessica Woods to financial analyst; Madelyn Kearns to editorial project manager; Lauren Streeter to marketing manager; Amelie Veegaert to event manager; Jason Zecchinelli to director, data and analytics; Parker Swenson to project manager, operations; Sarah Williams to operations team manager; and Veronica Fossett to operations manager.

Exactitude, a commercial door company in Cumberland, promoted Paul Libby to production manager. Libby previously worked as a woodshop craftsmen in the company’s precision millwork division.

St. Andre Home, a nonprofit, Catholic organization in Biddeford founded by the Good Shepherd Sisters, promoted Carey Nason to executive director. Nason previously served as director of the organization’s CourageLIVES program.

Golden Pond Wealth Management in Waterville promoted Katie Brann to financial advisor. Brann was previously a client service associate.

Achievements

Skelton Taintor & Abbott, a law firm in Auburn, said attorney, Amy Dieterich presented at a LA Metro Chamber’s seminar on the Family Medical Leave Act.

Verrill, a law firm in Portland, said 45 of its Maine-based attorneys were named to the U.S. News Media Group and Best Lawyers “2020 Best Lawyers in America” list. In addition, the firm had 12 of its Maine-based attorneys named “Lawyer of the Year” in their practice area.

Brann & Isaacson, a law firm in Lewiston, said seven of its attorneys were named to the U.S. News Media Group and Best Lawyers “2020 Best Lawyers in America” list.

Insource Renewables, a renewable energy contracting firm in Pittsfield, was named a “Best for the World” honoree by B Lab, is a nonprofit that serves a global movement of people using business as a force for good. The firm ranked in the top 10% of all B Corps in the worker impact area on the B Impact Assessment, as a result of its corporate culture, work environment, worker health and safety practices and other employee-centric policies and practices. It was one of six Maine companies cited.

Baker Newman Noyes, an accounting and consulting firm in Portland, said it was named among the nation’s Top 100 accounting firms in the U.S. by INSIDE Public Accounting. The firm is ranked at No. 93.

University of Maine at Farmington announced it was nationally recognized as a “Best College” by U.S. News & World Report, ranking in the Top 10 in four categories in its Carnegie classification of Regional Colleges in the North. The university was listed No. 2 in “Best Colleges for Veterans,” No. 3 in “Best Value,” No. 5 in “Top Public Colleges” and No. 8 in “Top Regional Colleges in the North – Public and Private.”

Maine Council on Aging in Brunswick announced its 2019 award winners including Mollie Baldwin, former president and CEO of Home Care for Maine, and Larry Gross, former president and CEO of Southern Maine Agency on Aging, who captured the “Lasting Legacy Award.” Representative Jessica Fay of Raymond and representative Drew Gattine of Westbrook were named “Legislator of the Year Award” winners and Fran Seeley and Shirl Weaver shared the organization’s “Trailblazing Advocate Award.”

Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife named Charlie Mann and George Smith its “2019 Lifetime Achievement Award” winners. Among numerous career accomplishments, Smith served as executive director of the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine for 18 years while Mann, who was honored posthumously, was founder of the department’s Hooked On Fishing, Not On Drugs Program. In addition, the department named Wes Ashe, a fisheries biologist stationed in the Belgrade Lakes region of the state, its “fisheries section employee of the year” and Derik Lee, a fish culturist who works at the Grand Lake Stream hatchery, its “hatcheries section employee of the year” at its annual division meeting. The fisheries section also honored the team that developed the Fishing Laws Online Angling Tool, which was released last spring, and in the hatcheries section, a cross section of the agency that worked on the Grand Lake Stream Hatchery water intake construction project was honored.

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recognized two individuals and one business from Maine for their work to protect New England’s environment. John Banks, director of the Penobscot Indian Nation’s Department of Natural Resources, and Matthew Scott, former state biologist and longtime environmentalist, each received a “Lifetime Achievement” award. In addition, Garbage to Garden in Portland won a “Merit Award” in the business category.

University of Maine at Presque Isle said it ranked the as the fourth “Most Innovative Schools for Regional Colleges in the North,” as part of the U.S. News & World Report 2020 Best Colleges list. The university was also included in four other report categories.

Kaplan Thompson Architects in Portland announced it met the American Institute of Architects 2030 challenge goal for 2018. Published in September, the 2030 by the numbers report showed that of the 252 signatories in the last reporting year, the firm was one of only 16 firms in the U.S. who achieved a 70% or greater predicted energy use savings across its entire portfolio.
