Nonprofit gets $2.5 million science education grant

A nonprofit in Damariscotta that promotes science education this week said it has received a five-year, $2.5 million grant from the National Science Foundation.

The Institute for Broadening Participation will use the money to expand its Connections and Pathways project for the NSF's Alliances for Graduate Education and the Professoriate program. The program works to encourage more minority students to pursue degrees and careers in math, science, engineering and technology fields, according to a press release.

The IBP has worked on the project with the NSF for the last four years, the release said.
