Norton Insurance, based in Cumberland, has acquired an insurance agency in Winthrop, but the agency will not change its name or lose any employees as a result.
Norton announced its acquisition of Brennan Insurance Agency on Wednesday, adding six employees to Norton’s 41 existing employees. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The deal comes more than a year after Norton acquired Davis Insurance Agency in Monmouth and merged it with Fairfield Kilgore Agency in Winthrop, an agency run by Norton.
“Over the past several years, Norton Insurance Agency has made a strategic commitment to Kennebec County,” Jeffory Begin, Norton’s president, said in a prepared statement. “The Brennan Insurance Agency is a perfect geographic complement to the Davis and Fairfield Kilgore insurance agencies in nearby Monmouth.”
Michael Brennan, president of Brennan Insurance, said in a prepared statement that “by combining with Norton, we are able to continue as an independent insurance agency.” He added, “given Norton’s breadth of carrier relationships, Brennan Insurance is now able to offer individuals and businesses more options to meet their insurance needs.”
