Norway biz owner gets jail time for theft

A business owner in Norway will spend three-and-a-half years in prison for stealing $4 million from MaineCare.

Dawn Cummings Solomon, who pleaded guilty in December to charges of felony theft by deception, yesterday was sentenced in Oxford County Court to eight years in prison with all but 42 months suspended, according to the Portland Press Herald. She was also ordered to repay the money she stole by submitting falsified mileage and expense reports to the state since January 2006. Solomon owned Living Independence Network Corp., which provided services to children with autism and other disabilities, as well as several other health care-related and consulting companies in Norway. Officials raided two buildings that housed Solomon's businesses last July.

An auction in March sold off nine properties Solomon owned with her husband through real estate holding company New Horizon Capital Investment.
